Salvadoran national sentenced for illegal reentry after prior deportation

Leah B. Foley United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts | Department of Justice

A Salvadoran national, Arsenio Valladares, 45, has been sentenced in federal court in Boston for unlawfully reentering the United States after being deported. U.S. District Court Judge Julia E. Kobick ordered Valladares to serve time already spent in custody—approximately five months—and imposed one year of supervised release. Following his sentence, Valladares is now subject to deportation proceedings.

Valladares pleaded guilty in July 2025 to one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien after being indicted by a federal grand jury earlier that April. He was previously removed from the United States on or about April 23, 2008 and later returned without authorization.

Before his removal, Valladares had convictions for several offenses including assault and battery with a deadly weapon, assault and battery on a police officer, operating under the influence, larceny, and malicious destruction of property. Federal immigration authorities became aware of his presence again in November 2024 when they were notified that his fingerprints were taken as part of criminal charges in Massachusetts. Immigration officials detained him on March 18, 2025.

"United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Acting Field Office Director, Boston, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston made the announcement. Assistant U.S. Attorney Olivia Benjamin prosecuted the case."
