Federal inmate indicted for possessing weapon at Allenwood facility

A federal grand jury has indicted Davon Nelson, a 40-year-old Maryland resident, for allegedly possessing a weapon while incarcerated at the Allenwood Federal Correctional Facility. The indictment, announced by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, alleges that Nelson had a sharpened steel weapon on October 8, 2024.

Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus stated that the case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah R. Lloyd is handling the prosecution.

If convicted, Nelson could face up to five years in prison, supervised release after imprisonment, and a fine. Sentencing would be determined by a judge based on federal statutes and sentencing guidelines.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office emphasized that “Indictments and Criminal Informations are only allegations. All persons charged are presumed to be innocent unless and until found guilty in court.”
