Providence man pleads guilty to federal firearm possession charge

A Providence man with a history of firearm, robbery, and drug trafficking convictions has pleaded guilty to a federal charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm. The announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom.

Court records show that on March 30, 2024, Troy L. Antley, 56, was stopped by Providence Police for failing to signal at an intersection. During the stop, an officer observed a knife on the driver’s seat. As the officer moved to secure the knife, he saw a round of ammunition in the cupholder and noticed the handle of a gun between the driver’s seat and center console.

Authorities later identified the weapon as a loaded 9mm Smith and Wesson semi-automatic pistol that had been reported stolen in Alabama. The magazine contained 14 rounds out of its 16-round capacity, with one additional round chambered in the pistol.

Antley is set for sentencing on November 20, 2025. Sentencing will be determined by a federal district judge who will consider both U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Stacey A. Erickson and Milind M. Shah are prosecuting the case. The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with the Providence Police Department.
