Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a call with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between the United States and Uganda. The conversation focused on migration, reciprocal trade, and commercial ties.
According to Principal Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott, "Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni to discuss opportunities to deepen U.S.-Uganda cooperation on migration, reciprocal trade, and commercial ties. The Secretary also thanked Uganda for providing a model of regional stability including its valuable contributions to peacekeeping in East Africa."
The United States has previously recognized Uganda's role in promoting stability in East Africa through its involvement in peacekeeping missions.
This discussion is part of ongoing efforts by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of African Affairs to support partnerships that contribute to regional security and economic development.
