Honduran national pleads guilty in New Orleans federal court for illegal reentry

Walter Omar Casco-Lopez, a 36-year-old Honduran national, has pleaded guilty to illegal reentry of a removed alien, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson. The plea was entered on August 19, 2025.

Court documents show that Casco-Lopez was found in Orleans Parish on November 4, 2019. He had previously been removed from the United States to Honduras on or about October 12, 2011.

Casco-Lopez faces up to two years in prison, followed by as much as one year of supervised release. He may also be subject to a fine of up to $250,000 and must pay a mandatory $100 special assessment fee.

The case is part of Operation Take Back America. According to the announcement, this nationwide initiative uses resources from the Department of Justice with the goal of reducing illegal immigration and eliminating criminal organizations that threaten community safety. The operation involves collaboration between the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).

Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson praised Immigration and Customs Enforcement for its work investigating the matter. Assistant United States Attorney Spiro G. Latsis of the General Crimes Unit is overseeing prosecution.
