A Jackson resident, Domique Desha Mathews, has been sentenced to 30 months in federal prison for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. The sentencing follows an incident in which Ridgeland Police discovered Mathews, age 30, with two firearms during a traffic stop. One of the weapons was identified as a Glock pistol equipped with a machinegun conversion device, commonly known as a "switch," which allows the pistol to function as a machinegun and is illegal under both federal and state law.
Mathews had previously been convicted of attempted house burglary, making it unlawful for him to possess any firearm or ammunition under federal regulations. He was indicted by a federal grand jury on June 11, 2025, and entered a guilty plea to the charge on May 21, 2025.
Acting U.S. Attorney Patrick A. Lemon for the Southern District of Mississippi and Special Agent in Charge Joshua Jackson from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives announced the sentencing.
"The ATF investigated the case."
"Assistant U.S. Attorney Matt Allen prosecuted the case."
The prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America (https://www.justice.gov/dag/media/1393746/dl?inline), an initiative by the Department of Justice aimed at countering illegal immigration and eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations while protecting communities from violent crime. The operation brings together resources from Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
