U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry detained a man wanted for aggravated sexual assault of a child on August 21. The arrest took place at the Camino Real International Bridge when officers referred Isaias Hernandez, a 26-year-old U.S. citizen, for secondary inspection. During this process, biometric verification confirmed that Hernandez had an outstanding felony warrant issued by the Cook County Sheriff’s Office in Chicago, Illinois.
Port Director Pete Beattie commented on the apprehension: “Due to the vigilance and dedication of our CBP officers, a fugitive wanted for this heinous crime is now in custody. Their unwavering commitment to protecting our communities and upholding the law is a testament to their vital role in protecting our borders and ensuring justice is met.”
After confirmation of his identity and warrant status through law enforcement databases, Hernandez was turned over to the Maverick County Sheriff’s Office pending criminal proceedings.
The National Crime Information Center (NCIC) is used by law enforcement agencies to share information about outstanding warrants for various offenses. According to CBP, previous arrests based on NCIC information have included individuals sought for crimes such as homicide, robbery, narcotics distribution, and military desertion. The agency notes that criminal charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
CBP describes itself as America’s largest law enforcement organization with more than 65,000 personnel responsible for border management across land, air, and sea domains.
