A Honduran man, Nahun Esau Suazo-Varela, was sentenced to three months in prison for illegal reentry into the United States. The sentencing took place in Great Falls, with Chief U.S. District Judge Brian M. Morris presiding.

Suazo-Varela, 48, pleaded guilty to the charge in June 2025. According to court documents, law enforcement encountered him on May 22, 2025, during a traffic stop in Havre, Montana. Officers identified him as the passenger in a vehicle registered to someone who had overstayed their admission terms in the country. Suazo-Varela presented a Honduran passport and confirmed he lacked immigration documents permitting legal presence in the United States.

Authorities transported Suazo-Varela to the Havre Border Patrol Station, where he admitted to crossing into the United States illegally after being deported near McAllen, Texas, in October 2010. Records show that between 2006 and 2010, Suazo-Varela had several law enforcement encounters in Ohio related to traffic offenses. He was ordered removed from the country on September 30, 2010.

The case was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Montana and investigated by the United States Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

"This case is part of Operation Take Back America a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.
