Kelly Justin Van Lewis, a 35-year-old resident of Coweta, Oklahoma, has pleaded guilty to two federal charges: assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to do bodily harm in Indian Country and possession of ammunition while subject to a protective order. The announcement was made by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
According to court documents, on April 30, 2024, Lewis assaulted a victim using a dangerous weapon. On July 2, 2025, he knowingly possessed 990 rounds of assorted ammunition that had been shipped and transported in interstate commerce. At the time, Lewis was under a court order restraining him from attempting, threatening, or committing domestic violence, stalking, or abuse against an intimate partner.
The incidents took place in Wagoner County within the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Reservation.
The investigation into these crimes was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Coweta Police Department.
“The Honorable D. Edward Snow, U.S. Magistrate Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, accepted the plea and ordered the completion of a presentence investigation report.”
“A U.S. District Court Judge will determine the sentence to be imposed after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.”
Lewis is being held by the United States Marshals Service as he awaits sentencing.
