U.S. Senator Jerry Moran, chairman of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, issued a statement congratulating Dan Wiley of Leavenworth, Kansas, on his election as the 2025-2026 National Commander of The American Legion.

“Congratulations to Commander Dan Wiley on being elected by his fellow Legionnaires to serve as the new National Commander of The American Legion. After serving our country in the U.S. Air Force, Dan came home to Kansas to continue to serve his brothers and sisters in arms as a part of The American Legion and his community as a lawyer and, later, a district court judge. More than 30 years since leaving the military, Mr. Wiley has demonstrated that he is a dedicated leader who is well-prepared to support the needs of our nation’s veterans and their families as National Commander. I look forward to working with him as he continues to serve veterans and military families in this new capacity,” Moran said.

Wiley has served in 24 roles within The American Legion at various levels from local posts up to national leadership. He has chaired the Leavenworth County Veterans Day Parade Committee twice and was Master of Ceremonies for over 15 years at Memorial Day events at Leavenworth National Cemetery. Following his service in the U.S. Air Force, Wiley attended law school at the University of Kansas and was appointed as a Kansas State District Court Judge in 2008 by Governor Kathleen Sebelius. In this role, he contributed to founding the Leavenworth County Veterans Treatment Court.

Wiley’s family is also involved with The American Legion; his wife Sonia and their two children are members.
