A Mexican national has been sentenced to 13 months and one day in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for illegally reentering the United States after being removed from the country twice. The sentence was handed down by United States District Judge Gloria Navarro.
Court records show that Gutierrez-Chavarria was arrested on December 13, 2024, by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police on multiple counts related to selling and trafficking controlled substances. After being released on bail, he was arrested again by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on February 20, 2025. Authorities noted that Gutierrez-Chavarria had previously been deported on April 5, 2022, and again on September 6, 2022. His first removal came after serving a 16-year sentence for a felony drug trafficking conviction from 2007.
Gutierrez-Chavarria pleaded guilty to one count of Deported Alien Found in the United States.
Acting United States Attorney Sigal Chattah for the District of Nevada and Salt Lake City Field Office Director Jason Knight announced the sentencing. The case was investigated by ICE’s Salt Lake City office in Las Vegas and prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada.
