The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has confirmed the arrest of Olivia G. Wilkins, a 24-year-old U.S. citizen, after she allegedly attempted to run over a Border Patrol Agent in Maine on August 25, 2025. The agent was assisting with the arrest of two individuals identified as illegal aliens following a commercial vehicle rollover accident. United States Border Patrol agents were working alongside the Maine State Police and the Knox County Sheriff’s Office at the scene.
According to DHS, Wilkins began verbally harassing officers as they escorted the two individuals to a government vehicle before using her own vehicle to drive toward the group of law enforcement personnel, nearly striking them. Deputies from Knox County pursued Wilkins, who crashed her vehicle and was subsequently arrested. She faces charges including aggravated reckless conduct, criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, driving to endanger, hindering apprehension, obstructing government administration, and failure to stop for an officer.
One of the detained individuals, Jhoan Andres Ortiz-Calderon, reportedly has a final order of removal from an immigration judge. The other individual, Victor Hugo Cardona-Calderon, is described as having overstayed his visa and lacking a work permit.
A spokesperson for DHS stated: “On Monday afternoon, a woman deliberately attempted to run over a Border Patrol Agent. This incident comes just two weeks after a threatening letter with a white powdery substance was sent to an ICE office in New York City. Less than a week ago, a violent rioter was charged with assault in San Francisco after he threatened to stab an ICE officer and harm his family. Earlier in the week, there was a bomb threat at a Dallas ICE facility,” said a DHS Spokesperson. “These incidents come after months of smears and rhetoric by activists, politicians, and the media comparing ICE law enforcement to the Nazi Gestapo, kidnappers, and the Secret Police. This shameful rhetoric has fueled a culture of hate against law enforcement resulting in a 1,000 percent increase in assaults against them. All sanctuary politicians, activists, and the media need to turn down their temperature.”
DHS referenced several recent attacks or threats directed at Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) offices and federal law enforcement personnel across various cities in recent months:
- On August 26, 2025 law enforcement arrested an individual who made a bomb threat targeting an ICE facility in Dallas.
- On August 22, 2025 DHS condemned violent assaults on ICE officers during riots in San Francisco.
- In July 2025 there were additional incidents involving attacks or threats against ICE agents in Texas and California.
These events are part of what DHS describes as an ongoing trend linked to negative public discourse about federal immigration enforcement.
