Demetrius Brown, a 47-year-old inmate at the Federal Correctional Institution in Oxford, Wisconsin, has been sentenced to 33 months in federal prison for assaulting a prison guard. The sentence will be served consecutively to his current sentence for drug trafficking. Brown pleaded guilty to the assault charge on June 9, 2025.
The incident occurred on August 24, 2024, when Brown attacked a guard after contraband was found in his cell. The guard sustained minor injuries as a result of the assault.
During sentencing, U.S. District Judge William M. Conley noted concerns not only about the injury to the guard but also about the risk posed to other staff who responded to the incident. Judge Conley also stated that he was disappointed by Brown’s apparent lack of insight into his violent behavior.
The investigation into the assault was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Assistant U.S. Attorney Steven Ayala prosecuted the case.
Chadwick M. Elgersma, Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced the sentencing.
