Honduran man pleads guilty to illegal reentry after prior removal

A Honduran national, Pedro Tailor Castillo-Bonilla, age 43, pleaded guilty on August 20, 2025, to the charge of illegal reentry after being previously removed from the United States. The announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson.

According to court documents, Castillo-Bonilla was discovered in the United States on June 18, 2025. He had reentered the country without authorization following his deportation on August 15, 2012.

Castillo-Bonilla could face up to two years in prison and up to one year of supervised release. The court may also impose a fine of as much as $250,000 and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100. Sentencing is scheduled for November 19, 2025, before United States District Judge Lance M. Africk.

The case falls under Operation Take Back America, an initiative that combines resources from several Department of Justice programs—including Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN)—to address illegal immigration and related criminal activity.

Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson commended the efforts of the United States Coast Guard and Customs and Border Protection in their investigation. Special Assistant United States Attorney Rick Veters is prosecuting the case.
