A Taylor County man has been sentenced to federal prison after pleading guilty to crop insurance fraud. Robert “Robbie” Thomas Hunt, 61, of Campbellsville, Kentucky, received a sentence of 12 months and 1 day in prison, followed by two years of supervised release. The sentencing took place on August 26, 2025.
U.S. Attorney Kyle G. Bumgarner of the Western District of Kentucky and Special Agent in Charge Miles Davis of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Office of the Inspector General announced the sentencing.
According to court documents, Hunt committed crop insurance fraud from 2014 through 2021 by selling crops under other people’s names and underreporting his actual production on claim forms. This conduct led to more than $1.6 million in fraudulent overpayments from insurance claims. Hunt pleaded guilty on March 27, 2025.
Hunt was ordered to pay $1,686,002 in restitution and fined $250,000.
“There is no parole in the federal system,” officials stated.
The case was investigated by both the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Office of the Inspector General and its Risk Management Agency’s Special Investigations Staff. Assistant U.S. Attorney David Weiser prosecuted the case.
