Rachel Watts Sanders, a 39-year-old resident of Loranger, Louisiana, was sentenced to five years of probation on August 28, 2025. The sentencing was announced by Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson. Sanders previously pleaded guilty to wire fraud and mail theft.
According to court records, Sanders worked as a Postal Highway Contract Route contractor in Franklinton, Louisiana. During her employment, she stole more than forty checks from the mail. She then forged endorsements on these checks and deposited them into her own bank account. The total losses amounted to $22,717.66.
The amount of restitution Sanders will be required to pay will be determined at a later date.
The investigation was conducted by the United States Postal Service Office of the Inspector General. Assistant United States Attorney Christine Calogero from the General Crimes Unit is handling the prosecution.
