A Mentmore resident, Alery Al Reid, has pleaded guilty to federal charges involving the assault and strangulation of an intimate partner. Court documents indicate that on December 5, 2024, Reid, a 26-year-old member of the Navajo Nation, punched, strangled, and threatened to kill the victim identified as Jane Doe.
Reid admitted guilt to two counts: assault of an intimate partner by strangling and assault resulting in substantial bodily injury. He could face up to ten years in prison when sentenced. Following any prison term, Reid will be under supervised release for three years.
Acting U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Acting Special Agent in Charge Philip Russell from the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office announced the plea. The investigation was conducted by the Gallup Resident Agency of the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office with support from the Navajo Police Department and Navajo Department of Criminal Investigations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark A. Probasco is handling prosecution duties.
