The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has proposed a civil penalty of $74,250 against Mokwheel Bikes, Inc., following alleged violations of hazardous materials regulations.

According to the FAA, on December 26, 2023, Mokwheel Bikes, based in Ontario, California, offered a shipment containing lithium-ion batteries to United Parcel Service (UPS) for air transport from Ontario to Shenzhen, China. The agency claims the shipment was not declared as dangerous goods and lacked proper classification, description, marking, labeling, and packaging necessary to prevent hazards such as sparks or heat generation.

The FAA further alleges that Mokwheel did not ensure its employees received required hazardous materials training and failed to provide emergency response information in shipping documents. UPS staff discovered the undeclared shipment at a sorting facility in Anchorage, Alaska.

"Mokwheel Bikes has received the FAA’s enforcement letter."

Lithium-ion batteries are subject to strict transportation rules due to their potential fire risk during air transit. Proper declaration and packaging are required by federal regulations to ensure safety during shipping.

Mokwheel Bikes has been notified of the proposed enforcement action by the FAA.
