U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Rainbow Bridge border crossing in Niagara Falls, New York, arrested Everton Thomas, a 41-year-old U.S. citizen from New Jersey, on September 8. Thomas was found to have an active warrant for homicide with a gun issued by the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office in New Jersey.
Thomas was attempting to enter the United States on a commercial bus when CBP officers identified him through a National Crime Information Center match. Officers brought him to a secondary inspection area to verify his identity and confirm the outstanding arrest warrant.
“As part of our unwavering commitment to safeguarding our nation’s borders, our officers remain vigilant in identifying and apprehending individuals attempting to evade justice,” said Buffalo Assistant Port Director Richard Diamond. “This arrest demonstrates the critical role our team plays in supporting law enforcement efforts across the country. Thanks to the dedication and professionalism of our officers, a fugitive wanted for homicide in New Jersey has been taken into custody and will now face the justice system.”
After confirming the warrant, CBP turned Thomas over to New York State Police as a fugitive from justice. He is currently in custody awaiting extradition to New Jersey.
CBP is recognized as America's largest law enforcement organization and manages unified border operations across land, air, and sea domains.
Criminal charges are allegations; defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
