The White House has released a new strategy report titled "Make Our Children Healthy Again," aimed at tackling childhood chronic diseases. The report, issued on September 9, was developed by the Make America Healthy Again Commission and addresses issues such as poor diet, exposure to environmental chemicals, lack of physical activity, stress, and overmedicalization. It proposes more than 120 initiatives involving policy reforms, deregulation, and structural changes.
The American Hospital Association (AHA) expressed support for the initiative. In a statement, the AHA noted that hospitals and health systems nationwide have long promoted nutritional health within their communities. "It’s why you find hospital-led programs that provide healthy food to patients leaving the hospital; programs that help patients control chronic conditions through fitness, cooking classes and fresh produce; and programs that ensure patients have fresh, healthy food during their stay," said the AHA. They emphasized their commitment to not only saving lives but also helping people live longer and healthier lives. The AHA looks forward to collaborating with the Administration on recommendations related to healthy food in hospitals.
