Dejan Karlovic, a former Senior Grants Accountant at Jericho Road Community Health Center, was sentenced to three months in prison after being convicted of theft of funds related to a government program. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra, Jr. Karlovic, 30, of Amherst, New York, was also ordered to pay $584,884.99 in restitution and forfeit a BMW, a pickup truck, and more than $240,000 in cash and financial accounts.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles M. Kruly, Jericho Road received over $10,000 in federal grants and funding between January and March 1, 2024. In his position as Senior Grants Accountant, Karlovic acted as a liaison between the program and finance departments at Jericho Road and had access to several commercial credit cards and financial accounts.
Between March 1 and June 26, 2024, Karlovic stole or intentionally converted nearly $585,000 belonging to Jericho Road by submitting fake invoices from a company called “D and D.” These invoices were made to appear as legitimate expenses for moving and relocation services—a service offered by Jericho Road to its clients. Karlovic then paid these fraudulent invoices using the organization’s commercial credit card.
