The American Financial Services Association (AFSA) has announced the appointment of Philip Bohi as General Counsel, acknowledging his nearly decade-long contributions to the association's compliance and legal programs.
According to AFSA, Bohi will oversee the organization's legal and regulatory functions, advise senior leadership, and enhance its advocacy strategy. The press release describes him as having a "deep understanding of our industry" and a proven track record supporting members and business partners. AFSA President and CEO Celia Winslow said that Bohi’s work "has served our association and our industry well for almost a decade."
Before joining AFSA, Bohi held legal leadership roles at Toyota Motor Credit Corporation and Fannie Mae, where he managed complex compliance and regulatory responsibilities. His earlier career in private practice focused on areas such as mortgage regulation and manufactured housing finance. According to Marketscreener, this blend of experience makes him well-equipped for AFSA’s top legal role.
AFSA’s decision highlights its commitment to expanding its legal footprint and influence in public policy. Bohi expressed his anticipation for "more involvement in the advocacy and public policy efforts" to assist members in prioritizing access to credit for consumers. The association views legal leadership as crucial for navigating regulatory challenges in financial services.
Established in 1916, the American Financial Services Association advocates on behalf of companies offering consumer credit across the United States. Its members provide products such as auto financing, credit cards, and installment loans while explicitly excluding payday and title lenders. The organization also offers compliance training, policy updates, and regulatory support for its members.
