South Bend man receives over five-year sentence for drug distribution

Kevin Pope, Jr., a 39-year-old resident of South Bend, Indiana, has been sentenced to 66 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to possession with intent to distribute fentanyl. The sentence was handed down by United States District Court Judge Damon R. Leichty, according to Acting United States Attorney M. Scott Proctor.

Following his release from prison, Pope will be subject to three years of supervised release.

Court documents indicate that in October and November 2024, Pope sold methamphetamine and fentanyl on five separate occasions in South Bend. Law enforcement executed a search warrant at his residence in December 2024, discovering more than 30 grams of fentanyl, a kilogram of pills containing methamphetamine, approximately 90 grams of cocaine, over $22,000 in cash, and a loaded handgun.

The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives with support from the South Bend Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Joel Gabrielse prosecuted the case.
