President Donald J. Trump has signed a Presidential Memorandum aimed at addressing high levels of violent crime in Memphis, Tennessee. The memorandum follows requests from state and local leaders for federal assistance, as local authorities have struggled to manage the ongoing situation.
According to the White House, "Memphis is suffering from tremendous levels of violent crime that have overwhelmed its local government’s ability to respond effectively, prompting State and local leaders to request Federal assistance to restore public safety and order."
The administration stated that the move aligns with President Trump's broader commitment to improving safety across the country. "The American people elected President Trump to restore law and order in communities across the United States," the statement said.
The new initiative is intended to support Memphis officials in their efforts to reduce crime and maintain public safety.
