Bipartisan legislation aimed at addressing the shortage of nurses and physicians has been reintroduced in Congress. The Healthcare Workforce Resilience Act, supported by the American Hospital Association (AHA), seeks to utilize previously authorized but unused green cards. The bill proposes allocating up to 25,000 immigrant visas for nurses and 15,000 for physicians.

The legislation mandates that employers must confirm that these foreign medical professionals will not replace American workers. Additionally, eligible candidates must fulfill licensing requirements, pay necessary fees, and pass national security and criminal background checks before obtaining these visas.

The AHA has expressed its support for this measure as a means to alleviate the ongoing healthcare workforce challenges.
