Sprout Organics has announced a voluntary recall of one lot of its Sweet Potato Apple and Spinach baby food pouches due to possible elevated lead levels. The affected product comes in a 3.5-ounce pouch and was distributed primarily through Walgreens stores and some independent retailers in the US South region, with most sales occurring between September and December 2024. The company clarified that no other major grocery chains sold this specific product.
According to Sprout Organics, exposure to lead—even at low levels—can increase blood lead levels, especially with long-term or high-level exposure. Children exposed to enough lead over time may face learning difficulties or other lasting health issues.
Consumers are advised to check their products for the relevant lot code and expiration date printed on the bottom strip on the back of each pouch. Any matching items should be returned to the store for a full refund.
The company stated, "No illnesses have been reported to date and no other Sprout Organics products are impacted by this voluntary recall." They added that the action follows routine sampling procedures.
