Remington Colt Arnold, 34, from Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for unlawful possession of a firearm. The sentencing took place in Martinsburg.
Court documents and statements presented during the proceedings indicated that the West Virginia State Police were executing a parole violation warrant at a residence where Arnold was found. The homeowner permitted officers to enter the home, where they discovered Arnold asleep with a pistol nearby. After arresting Arnold, officers conducted a search and seized a backpack containing ammunition. Due to previous convictions for assault and grand larceny, Arnold is legally prohibited from possessing firearms.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Eleanor Hurney handled the prosecution for the government. The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with the West Virginia State Police.
U.S. District Judge Gina M. Groh presided over the case.
