ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

A federal case in Great Falls has resulted in guilty pleas from two Poplar men accused of sexual abuse on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation. U.S. Attorney Kurt Alme announced that Chandler Duran Longtree, 19, and Payton Robert Richard Montclair, 19, each pleaded guilty to one count of sexual abuse.

Both defendants face potential sentences of life imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and supervised release ranging from five years to life. Chief U.S. District Judge Brian M. Morris is overseeing the case and will determine the sentences after reviewing the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other legal factors. Sentencing for Longtree is scheduled for January 14, 2026, while Montclair’s sentencing is set for January 21, 2026. Both remain in custody pending further proceedings.

According to court documents presented by the government, on January 18, 2025, Jane Doe was drinking with a group before separating from her friend and going with Longtree and Montclair—both then aged 18—to Longtree’s house. The government alleged that both men sexually assaulted her at that location. Jane Doe later reported the assault and underwent an examination by a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE), which found evidence consistent with a sexual assault.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Kalah Paisley prosecuted the case. The investigation was conducted by the FBI along with the Fort Peck Tribes Department of Law and Justice.
