Secretary of State Marco Rubio held talks with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa to discuss U.S. priorities in Syria, according to Principal Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott. During the meeting, Secretary Rubio emphasized the chance for Syria to move toward stability and sovereignty after President Trump’s announcement earlier this year regarding sanctions relief for Syrians.
The discussion also included ongoing counterterrorism efforts, initiatives to locate missing Americans, and the role of Israel-Syria relations in promoting regional security.
