Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar during the United Nations General Assembly High-level Week. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the event.
During their discussion, Secretary Rubio emphasized the importance of India to the United States and thanked the Indian government for its ongoing cooperation in areas such as trade, defense, energy, pharmaceuticals, and critical minerals. He said, "India is a relationship of critical importance to the United States," and expressed appreciation for India's continued engagement on these issues.
Both officials agreed that the United States and India will keep working together to support a free and open Indo-Pacific region. They noted that this cooperation includes efforts through the Quad partnership.
