Marion County man receives 30-month sentence for illegal firearm possession

Russell Lee Kirk, a 43-year-old resident of Fairmont, West Virginia, was sentenced to thirty months in prison for unlawful possession of a firearm. The sentencing took place in Clarksburg, West Virginia.

Court records indicate that Kirk was stopped by law enforcement during a traffic stop. Officers noticed a firearm strapped to the steering column of his vehicle. Kirk is legally prohibited from possessing firearms due to previous convictions for malicious assault and firearms offenses.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew Cogar prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with the West Virginia State Police.

Chief U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Kleeh presided over the case.
