Two Mexican nationals residing in Las Vegas, Alfredo Covarrubias-Jimenez, 39, and Victor Manuel Navarro-Quesada, 34, appeared in court to face charges of illegally reentering the United States after being previously deported. Both individuals are charged with one count of being a deported alien found in the United States. Their preliminary hearings are scheduled for October 6, 2025, before United States Magistrate Judge Elayna J Youchah.

According to criminal complaints and statements made during court proceedings, both Covarrubias-Jimenez and Navarro-Quesada are citizens of Mexico who had been removed from the U.S. on multiple occasions before allegedly reentering without authorization.

Covarrubias-Jimenez was taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on September 10, 2025, after being transferred from the Nevada Department of Corrections based on an ICE detainer. ICE became aware of his presence in Nevada following his arrest by North Las Vegas Police for possession and trafficking of controlled substances as well as possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. Previously, he was arrested by the San Bernardino Sheriff’s office in California on December 1, 2021, for similar drug-related offenses; however, an ICE detainer filed at that time was not honored. Covarrubias-Jimenez has been deported five times and has a prior felony conviction in California for inflicting corporal injury on a spouse.

Navarro-Quesada was remanded to ICE custody on September 16, 2025, also from the Nevada Department of Corrections after an ICE detainer was issued. On February 6, 2025, ICE learned he had been arrested by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for trafficking controlled substances and four counts related to possession with intent to sell. He has been deported to Mexico four times previously and holds a prior felony conviction from Colorado in 2019 for illegal reentry after deportation—the same charge he currently faces.

If convicted, Covarrubias-Jimenez could receive up to 20 years in prison along with supervised release and financial penalties. Navarro-Quesada faces up to 10 years if convicted under similar terms.

Acting United States Attorney Sigal Chattah for the District of Nevada and Salt Lake City Field Office Acting Director Jason Knight announced these charges. The case is being investigated by ICE Salt Lake City’s Las Vegas Sub-Office and prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada.
