The Department of Veterans Affairs has announced the allocation of $84 million in grants to 176 organizations nationwide. The initiative aims to support veterans who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Half of the funds, $42 million, will be used for legal services under the Legal Services for Homeless Veterans and Veterans At-Risk for Homelessness Grants program. These grants will help veterans with landlord-tenant disputes, court proceedings involving child support, custody, estate planning, securing benefits such as state and federal compensation, and defense in criminal cases like outstanding warrants or driver’s license revocation.

The remaining $42 million is allocated for case management services through the Grant and Per Diem program. This funding will support around 100 case manager positions dedicated to helping veterans find and keep housing, conducting home visits to ensure stability, and connecting them with educational opportunities that promote independence.

VA Secretary Doug Collins stated, “No one who served our nation in uniform should go without shelter. These grants will provide crucial support and services to help thousands of Veterans on their journey back to self-sufficiency.”

Lists of grant awardees for both legal services and case management are available on the VA website.
