Daniel Flesch, a senior policy analyst for Middle East and North Africa at The Heritage Foundation, has issued a statement criticizing the recent actions of several countries at the United Nations General Assembly. The statement was in response to the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Portugal, and France recognizing Palestinian statehood.
Flesch described the 80th UNGA as "a new low in the theater of the absurd that is the United Nations." He criticized leaders such as Prime Ministers Starmer, Albanese, Carney, Montenegro, and President Macron for what he termed as "political self-destruction" by legitimizing terrorism. According to Flesch, this move does not improve the lives of Palestinians but instead rewards terrorism.
He argued that this recognition undermines diplomatic efforts by the United States and its allies to recover U.S. citizens' bodies held by Hamas and secure the release of Israeli captives. Furthermore, Flesch said that these countries have made their positions clear: they prefer to mark October 7 as Palestinian Independence Day rather than an end to Palestinian efforts against Israel.
The Heritage Foundation continues to support initiatives aimed at strengthening U.S.-Israel relations and combating terrorist organizations like Hamas globally.
