A Wolf Point resident, Lawrence George Fast Horse, pleaded guilty to domestic assault by habitual offender in federal court following a stabbing incident on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Kurt Alme.
Fast Horse, 35, admitted to one count of domestic assault as a habitual offender and now faces up to five years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and three years of supervised release. Chief U.S. District Judge Brian M. Morris presided over the hearing and will determine sentencing on January 29, 2025. Fast Horse remains in custody pending further proceedings.
According to information presented in court, the incident occurred on August 2, 2024, in Poplar. Law enforcement responded to a report and found Jane Doe with a stab wound on her upper back. Officers searched Fast Horse at the scene and found a knife with brass knuckles attached in his shorts pocket.
A witness told law enforcement that Fast Horse and Jane Doe were arguing when he pushed her from behind and tried to hide a blade behind his back. Following his arrest at the scene, Fast Horse was taken to the Fort Peck Adult Correctional Facility. Jane Doe received treatment for three stab wounds at Poplar Community Hospital.
Court records indicate that Fast Horse has at least five prior convictions for domestic assault between 2008 and 2020.
The case was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Montana after an investigation conducted by the FBI and Fort Peck Tribes Department of Law and Justice.
