A Honduran national, Miguel Angel Vasquez-Amaya, 46, has been arrested and charged with illegal re-entry into the United States. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo in Buffalo, New York.
According to Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael J. Smith, Vasquez-Amaya was stopped on August 31, 2025, as a passenger in a vehicle at the Peace Bridge Port of Entry by Customs and Border Protection officers. The vehicle was sent for secondary inspection, during which immigration records showed that Vasquez-Amaya had previously been removed from the United States in November 2002.
The charge of re-entry of a removed alien carries a maximum penalty of two years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
This arrest is part of Operation Take Back America. According to officials, this initiative uses resources from the Department of Justice to address illegal immigration and aims to dismantle cartels and transnational criminal organizations while protecting communities from violent crime.
The investigation was conducted by Customs and Border Protection under Director of Field Operations Rose Brophy.
U.S. Attorney DiGiacomo emphasized that “the fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.”
