Goot Essa LLC, based in Howard, Pennsylvania, has issued a recall for one lot of its Der Mutterschaf Cheese due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The recall affects batch 33, totaling 64 pounds, which was distributed to seven customers across New Jersey, Virginia, Connecticut, and Montana through retail stores and restaurants.

The cheese is packaged in 4-ounce and 8-ounce clear plastic packages. The 4-ounce package carries UPC 810154560189 and the 8-ounce package has UPC 810154560196. Both sizes are marked with lot number 33 on a sticker on the back.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious infections in young children, elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may experience symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Infections during pregnancy can lead to miscarriages or stillbirths.

According to Goot Essa LLC: "The potential for contamination was noted after routine testing by the company revealed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in one sample from the batch. Sampling of similar batches revealed no contamination. Goot Essa will work closely with the FDA to conclude the investigation."

No illnesses have been reported so far related to this issue.

Customers who purchased Der Mutterschaf Cheese from batch 33 are advised to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. For questions, customers can contact Goot Essa at 1-800-490-4387 Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. EST.
