Olger Rene Maldonado-Santos, a 29-year-old citizen of Honduras, was sentenced in New Orleans for illegally reentering the United States after being previously removed. The sentencing took place on September 9, 2025, according to an announcement from Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson.
Court records show that Maldonado-Santos returned to the United States before May 17, 2025, following his prior removal on or about February 14, 2018. U.S. District Judge Wendy B. Vitter ordered that Maldonado-Santos be remanded into the custody of the United States Marshals and granted him credit for time served as well as one year of supervised release.
Upon completion of his imprisonment term, Maldonado-Santos will be transferred to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for further removal proceedings under the Immigration and Nationality Act.
Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson stated: "I praise the work of the United States Bureau of Customs and Border Protection investigating this matter." The prosecution is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney Irene González from the General Crimes Unit.
