An Akron man has been sentenced to 35 years in federal prison for distributing controlled substances in Northeast Ohio. Antoine D. Cook, 46, received the sentence from U.S. District Judge Donald C. Nugent after a jury found him guilty in June on several charges.

Cook was convicted of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, and being a felon in possession of ammunition. His prior convictions include multiple counts of domestic violence, distribution of a controlled substance, aggravated assault, and felonious assault.

Court documents show that on May 1, 2024, Cook possessed about 25 grams of methamphetamine and three grams of cocaine packaged for sale. He also had more than 80 rounds of ammunition despite his status as a convicted felon. Due to his criminal history involving drug and violent offenses, Cook faced enhanced sentencing as both a career offender and an armed career criminal.

Following his prison term, Cook will serve eight years under supervised release.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) led the investigation with support from the Ohio Adult Parole Authority. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Peter E. Daly for the Northern District of Ohio.
