Former Olin man receives 40-year sentence for child sexual exploitation

Christopher West, a 38-year-old former resident of Olin, Iowa, has been sentenced to 40 years in federal prison for sexually exploiting children. The sentencing took place on September 23, 2025, in Cedar Rapids before United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams.

West pleaded guilty on April 14, 2025, to one count of sexual exploitation of children and one count of distribution of child pornography. During the plea hearing, he admitted to sexually exploiting four children and distributing child pornography. The court record indicated that the victims were four girls aged 6, 11, 15, and 17.

Following his prison term of 480 months, West will be required to serve a five-year term of supervised release. He must also comply with all sex offender registration and public notification requirements.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Mark Tremmel. Multiple agencies participated in the investigation: the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Cortland (Illinois) Police Department, Waterloo Police Department, Jones County Sheriff’s Office, Anamosa Police Department, Jefferson City (Tennessee) Police Department, and the Iowa State Patrol.
