A Fruitland resident, Timothy Begay, has been indicted on federal charges related to the killing of a woman. Court documents state that on December 9, 2024, Begay, who is 38 years old and an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, intentionally killed Jane Doe.

Begay faces a charge of second-degree murder. He will be released to a halfway house under third-party supervision until his trial date is set. If convicted, he could face up to life in prison.

The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Justin A. Garris, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office.

The case was investigated by the Farmington Resident Agency of the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office with support from the Navajo Nation Police Department and Navajo Department of Criminal Investigations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Marshall is prosecuting.

“An indictment is merely an allegation. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law,” authorities noted.
