Mexican national pleads guilty to illegal reentry in Louisiana

A Mexican citizen has pleaded guilty to illegally reentering the United States after being previously removed, according to an announcement from Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson for the Eastern District of Louisiana.

Alfredo Ramirez-Vazquez, 55, entered his plea on September 16, 2025, admitting to violating federal law that prohibits reentry of a removed alien. Chief U.S. District Judge Wendy B. Vitter set sentencing for November 13, 2025.

Court records indicate that Ramirez-Vazquez returned to the United States before April 1, 2025, following a prior removal on or about February 5, 2024.

Ramirez-Vazquez could face up to ten years in prison, a fine as high as $250,000, up to three years of supervised release, and a mandatory $100 special assessment fee.

Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson stated: "I want to praise the work of the United States Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in investigating this matter." Assistant United States Attorney Irene González from the General Crimes Unit is prosecuting the case.

The prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America. According to the announcement: "This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime. Operation Take Back America streamlines efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) and Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN)."
