Spanish man sentenced in Maine for illegal reentry after prior removal

A Spanish national was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Bangor, Maine, for illegally reentering the United States after a previous removal. U.S. District Judge Nancy Torresen sentenced Jose Angel Hidalgo-Torres, 20, to time served, totaling 72 days. Hidalgo-Torres had pleaded guilty on August 12, 2025.

Court records indicate that Hidalgo-Torres was located in Calais, Maine shortly after entering the country without authorization on July 18, 2025. He had previously been removed from the United States in May 2024.

Following his sentencing, Hidalgo-Torres was transferred to immigration authorities.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Border Patrol.
