Albertsons recalls select deli items due to possible listeria contamination

ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

Albertsons Companies has issued a voluntary recall of certain store-made deli items due to concerns about possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The affected products contain bowtie pasta supplied by Fresh Creative Foods, which itself initiated the recall after being notified that the pasta ingredient from Nate’s Fine Foods of Roseville, California was subject to a recall.

Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium that can cause serious infections in young children, elderly people, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Symptoms in healthy individuals may include fever, headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Pregnant women are at risk for miscarriages or stillbirths if infected.

The recalled deli items were sold at several store banners operated by Albertsons Companies across multiple states including Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Louisiana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Utah and Wyoming. Stores involved include Albertsons, Albertsons Market, Amigos, Andronico's Community Markets, Carrs-Safeway, Eagle, Pak 'N Save, Pavilions, Market Street, Randalls, Safeway, Tom Thumb, United and Vons.

Consumers who purchased these items are advised not to consume them. They should either dispose of the products or return them to their local store for a full refund. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), "The FDA recommends in these cases that anyone who purchased or received any recalled products to use extra vigilance in cleaning and sanitizing any surfaces and containers that may have come in contact with these products to reduce the risk of cross-contamination. Listeriamonocytogenes can survive in refrigerated temperatures and can easily spread to other foods and surfaces."

No injuries or adverse reactions have been reported so far as a result of consuming these products. Those with health concerns should contact a healthcare provider.

Customers with questions can reach Albertsons Companies’ Customer Service Center at 1-877-723-3929 during weekday business hours.
