Moolenaar responds to calls for easing restrictions on Chinese investment in US

Select Committee on China Chairman John Moolenaar (R-MI) responded to recent media coverage that China is seeking the removal of national security restrictions on its investments in the United States.

In his statement, Moolenaar described China as a "foreign adversary" and said it has not fulfilled past agreements with the U.S. administration under President Trump. He stated, “China is a foreign adversary that routinely cheats on its deals with America and it failed to fulfill its agreements with President Trump in his first term. China’s true desire is to take advantage of our country’s industry and knowledge, stealing innovation and threatening jobs. China has weaponized its own market and companies against us for decades, and we cannot allow those companies to have more access to our economy. Hardworking Americans have rejected Chinese companies coming into their communities and they want to protect our country, not weaken restrictions on Chinese investment.”

Moolenaar emphasized the need for strong protections against foreign investments from countries like China, citing concerns over job losses, intellectual property theft, and national security.
