Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers continued law enforcement operations over the weekend, arresting several individuals described as violent offenders, despite not receiving pay due to a government shutdown. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) highlighted these arrests in a statement released Monday.

According to Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin, "While Americans enjoyed their weekends, DHS law enforcement officers continued to arrest and remove the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens including violent child predators, gang members, drug traffickers, robbers, rapists, and reckless drunk drivers. Our officers continue to risk their lives and work without pay because of the Democrats’ government shutdown. We will not let political games or violence against law enforcement slow us down from making American safe again."

Among those arrested were individuals with convictions for offenses such as child pornography distribution, indecency with a child, burglary, rape, sexual assault on minors, gang-related crimes, human smuggling, weapon offenses, domestic violence, forgery, drug trafficking attempts involving opium possession and other felonies. The arrests occurred in various states including Delaware, Texas, Alabama, Montana, New York, California, Oregon, New Jersey, Massachusetts and North Carolina.

The DHS emphasized that its officers remain active in removing people convicted of serious crimes even during periods when they are not being paid due to federal funding lapses.
