Pam Bondi, U.S. Attorney General, said that the Department of Justice's efforts to combat violent crime have been successful. She made this statement during her testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
"Returning to our core mission of fighting real crime," said Bondi. "We created strong partnerships with local leadership, working hand-in-hand with both cities to send resources where they were needed most. The results speak for themselves."
On August 11, 2025, President Donald Trump issued an order deploying the National Guard to Washington, D.C., to address and prevent violent crime. A month later, on September 15, Trump issued another order deploying a crime-fighting task force to Memphis, Tennessee. This task force included National Guard soldiers.
According to Bondi's testimony, several statistics highlight the success of these initiatives. These include over 3,800 arrests in Washington, D.C., and the seizure of more than 365 illegal firearms. Similarly, in Memphis, she noted that "in just a week," there had been over 300 arrests and nearly 80 illegal firearms seized.
Bondi is the 87th Attorney General of the United States. Previously, she served as Florida Attorney General from 2011 to 2019. She has also served on the Board of Trustees for the Kennedy Center and held positions such as Chair of the Center for Litigation and Co-Chair of the Center for Law and Justice at the America First Policy Institute.
