Eureka Inc., based in Pomona, California, has issued a recall for its Durra Ground Cinnamon 100 gram plastic container due to potential lead contamination. The recall covers products with the UPC 6251136 034139, batch number 06 B:02, and a best by date of May 2026. The affected cinnamon was distributed to grocery stores in California and Michigan between August 24, 2024, and October 6, 2025.
The company announced that short-term exposure to low levels of lead may not produce noticeable symptoms. However, increased blood lead levels could be the only sign of exposure. High amounts of lead can cause severe symptoms requiring medical attention. Health effects vary depending on the amount and duration of exposure as well as age and body weight.
Children exposed to significant amounts of lead over weeks or months are at risk for permanent damage to the central nervous system. This can result in learning disorders and developmental defects. In adults, acute poisoning can cause symptoms such as abdominal pain, muscle weakness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, weight loss, and changes in urinary output. Chronic exposure is linked to kidney problems, high blood pressure, and cognitive issues.
No illnesses have been reported related to this product so far.
The recall began after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) collected samples from the product and found elevated lead levels. Eureka Inc.'s investigation is ongoing and includes testing raw materials used in manufacturing.
Lead poisoning is diagnosed through clinical testing. People who consumed the recalled cinnamon should consult their health care providers about getting tested for lead exposure. Consumers who purchased Durra Brand Cinnamon are encouraged to return it for a full refund or contact Eureka Inc. at 1-951-444-7779 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., five days a week.
The FDA is aware of this recall.
