Sno Pac Foods, based in Caledonia, Minnesota, has issued a recall for its Del Mar 35-pound bulk organic frozen spinach and Sno Pac 10-ounce organic frozen cut spinach. The recall was announced due to the potential contamination of these products with Listeria monocytogenes. This bacterium can cause serious or fatal infections in young children, elderly individuals, and those with weakened immune systems. Healthy people may experience symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Pregnant women are at risk for miscarriages and stillbirths if infected.
The affected frozen spinach products were distributed nationwide through retail stores and distributors. The recalled items include a 35-pound box with lot codes 250107A, 250107B, 250107C, 250107D, 2501071, and 2501073 (expiration date January 7, 2027), as well as a 10-ounce poly retail package with lot codes SPM1.190.5 (best by July 9, 2027), SPC1.160.5 (best by June 9, 2027), SPC2.160.5 (best by June 9, 2027), and SPM1.097.5 (best by April 7, 2027).
According to the company: "No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem."
The recall was initiated after a bulk case of spinach from the supplier tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes; this batch shared the same lot code used to repack Sno Pac Organic Frozen Cut Spinach into the smaller packages.
Sno Pac Foods stated: "The production of the product has been suspended while the company continues to investigate the source of the problem."
Consumers who purchased these products are advised to dispose of them or return them to their place of purchase for a full refund. For further questions about the recall or refunds, customers can contact Sno Pac Foods at (507) 725-5281 during business hours Monday through Friday.
