The America First Policy Institute (AFPI) has expressed concern over the impact of the ongoing government shutdown on federal firefighters. Jenn Pellegrino, AFPI’s Chief Spokesperson, highlighted the challenges faced by these essential workers who continue to fight wildfires without pay.
"Our federal firefighters are among the bravest Americans," Pellegrino said. "These are men and women who run toward danger, battling deadly wildfires, to protect lives, homes, and communities. Yet during this government shutdown, these heroes are being asked to risk their lives without pay. That is unacceptable."
Pellegrino attributed the crisis to political disagreements in Congress. "This crisis is not because of them. It is because liberals insist on holding funding hostage to push reckless spending and their Green New Scam," she said. She criticized those using firefighters as leverage in political negotiations.
She also noted that conservatives have already voted to keep the government open and ensure support for firefighters. "Bad actors in Congress have chosen politics over public safety," Pellegrino remarked. "It is time to put America’s heroes first, end the games, and fund our government responsibly."
